FRAME X FRAME FILM FESTIVAL

Frame x Frame Film Fest brings the best screen dance from across the globe to Houston. At the intersection of film and dance, this genre is on the forefront of innovation and storytelling in dance.
From Argentina to Ghana and Singapore to Bulgaria, Frame x Frame Film Fest (FXF) has featured hundreds of artists from more than twenty different countries over the past five years. From low-budget/high impact work like Einy Am-Spars (Norway) and Kay Collymore (Houston/UK) to the superstars of the screen dance world like the Hong Kong Ballet and Australasian Dance Collective, FXF presents internationally acclaimed artists alongside homegrown Houston artists in a powerfully eclectic festival of screen dance.
THE LIFE, HISTORY, AND WORK OF IRMGARD BARTENIEFF

This lecture-based workshop will provide an insightful overview of the life, history, and groundbreaking work of Irmgard Bartenieff, a pioneer in movement theory. Participants will be introduced to The Patterns of Total Body Connectivity and The Basic 6, essential frameworks in the Bartenieff Fundamentals. Through a blend of historical context and practical insights, this workshop will deepen your understanding of how Bartenieff’s principles can enhance movement efficiency, awareness, and expression across all forms of dance and physical practice. Perfect for both educators and dancers seeking to explore the foundational concepts of body connectivity.
DANCING WITH THE CAMERA

This workshop focuses on the dancer’s experience in front of the camera, offering real-time feedback on how movement translates through the lens. Unlike performing for a live audience, dancing for the camera requires an understanding of framing, angles, and proximity to effectively communicate intention and emotion. Participants will explore how subtle shifts can drastically impact how their performance is perceived on screen.

IRMGARD BARTENIEFF PATTERNS OF TOTAL CONNECTIVITY

This experiential workshop will dive deeper into The Patterns of Total Body Connectivity, allowing participants the opportunity to explore connectivity within their own bodies, and utilize it for greater functionality and expression through movement.
LOOKING TO MOVE: DANCING AND THE VISUAL ARTS

In this workshop we will use lines, shapes, and related themes in visual art pieces as inspiration for building dance with our bodies. Dancers will explore movement within their own kinesphere and in the shared space of the studio, working individually and collaboratively to create dynamic representations of visual motifs. The visual art used for inspiration will be pieces in the Museum of Fine Art Houston collections and other examples of work by the artists represented in the collections. Those artists will include Ruth Asawa, Henri Matisse, Gego (Gerturd Goldschmidt), and Wassily Kandinsky.
